John, more than 2 million children in Lebanon have felt the crushing anxiety of a looming war for months.
This week, the crisis has escalated dramatically.
Innocent children and families are being killed and injured. As of Sept. 24, 50 children have been killed in air strikes in Lebanon, 345,000 children near the southern border are seeking safety and 1.5 million children are out of school.
Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced from their homes on both sides of the border.
Many of those fleeing are even more at-risk, including women, children and refugee populations who have already been displaced for months or years.
This is a major, terrifying escalation, but we must remember that children growing up in this conflict zone have been experiencing the impacts of cross-border violence and living in a heightened state of fear for years.
How is Save the Children responding?
With help from supporters like you, we’ve worked to support children in Lebanon since 1953. In the past year, we’ve supported 60,000 people in Lebanon, including 25,000 children, with:
Safe shelters
Food and hygiene kits
Learning support
Mental health support
Access to clean water and washing facilities
An end to this violence is the only way to truly protect children’s lives and futures in Lebanon, Gaza, the West Bank, Israel and throughout the region. We strongly urge all parties involved to respect international humanitarian law and to de-escalate this crisis immediately.
We will continue to keep you updated on our work to support children in Lebanon and across the region as this ongoing situation develops. Thank you for all you do to support children in crisis.
