TO: Congressman Eric Sorensen FROM: Carter Elliott, Campaign Manager DATE: Thursday, September 26, 2024
6 WEEKS FROM ELECTION DAY Strategic Overview of the Final Weeks of the Race
Congressman Sorensen,
Please find below the Internal Campaign Update.
Updates:
- National Republicans have made a joint TV buy with our opponent, Joe McGraw – their first of the cycle – dropping over a quarter million dollars across all three of our media markets.
- National Republicans are struggling to fundraise and have limited resources, so their major investment in IL-17 shows this race is at the top of their priority list.
Takeaways:
- With National Democrats remaining focused on challenging incumbent Republicans, our campaign is on our own to push back against this incoming Republican spending.
- In 2022, National Republicans spent $12 million dollars and, with the help of National Democrats, we were able to match that spending and win. This year, though, Republicans look to be prepared to spend at 2022 levels, while National Democrats are not.
Strategy:
- The bottom line is: if we are going to be without the support of National Democrats, we are going to need to make up the difference on our own.
- To keep up with Republican spending, we’ve strengthened all of our paid communications plans, especially on broadcast TV, but we now have a $200k budget gap we have to make up.
This race is shifting fast and we have to move quickly to stay ahead of Republicans and get our positive message out. We need to make sure every one of our supporters know what we’re up against.
If you have any questions, please feel free to respond here.
Thanks,
Carter
