That’s why I hope we can count on you for a special contribution to support the three core parts of the SPLC Voting Rights Action Plan. Step #1: Defending the Right to Vote in the Courtroom Litigation is at the heart of our strategy and has already produced significant victories. Last year, for example, we submitted an amicus brief whose argument was accepted by the U.S. Supreme Court in a major case striking down Alabama’s racially gerrymandered Congressional districts. Step #2: Fighting for Federal and State Voting Rights Protections At the federal level, we’re committed to restoring the full power of the Voting Rights Act, which a decade-long series of adverse Supreme Court decisions have hollowed out. One top priority is developing a revised coverage formula to be used in the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to protect voters from arbitrary changes to voting rights procedures. Step #3: Registering and Mobilizing Voters To defeat white nationalists and other far-right extremists, we must vote. In our sweeping Vote Your Voice project, we’re partnering with nonprofits across the Deep South on creative voter outreach efforts in this election and for years to come. These organizations do incredible work but have always struggled for funding. By finally getting them the resources they need, they can galvanize people to exercise their right to vote, advocate for voting access, ensure fair representation in redistricting and encourage full civic participation. This is a pivotal moment, and the outcome rests on the power of the vote. Friend, we are hopeful that you will make a special contribution to the SPLC to help us defend the legacy of freedom and voting rights for all.
