How we're supporting partners during this difficult time

[link removed]
Dear John

Can we count on your support today?

Today marks #GivingTuesdayNow. A day of charitable giving, normally held in November, but brought forward this year in response to the COVID-19 crisis.

The UN predicts, for every three months the lockdown continues, an additional 15 million women and girls will face violence. Currently, lockdown measures are in place in each of Womankind’s five focus countries; Nepal, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe.

As you may have read in my recent updates, Womankind partners are doing everything possible to reduce the threat of domestic violence and economic fallout faced by women and their families.

Partners such as Musasa in Zimbabwe and Women Human Rights in Nepal have set up domestic violence hotlines to meet the influx of cases being reported. Musasa and the Association for Women’s Sanctuary and Development (AWSAD) in Ethiopia have established new shelter services to house the increasing number of women and their children fleeing violence.

Our way of working

One of Womankind’s core beliefs is that our partners know the needs of their community better than we ever could. We take guidance from partners on how we can best support them, building on trust that has been developed over many years of working together.
Which is why we’re setting up a resilience fund to offer partners emergency grants to fund and build on the work they have already started in response to COVID-19. By offering flexible funding, women’s rights organisations can continue their vital relief efforts supporting unemployed and marginalised women.

Resilience grants can also offer peace of mind to partners that funding is available to secure the future of their organisation once the danger and preventative measures of COVID-19 have passed.

Will you help us to support our partner organisations during these unprecedented times?

As a Womankind supporter, I know that supporting women and girls during difficult times means a lot to you. We thank you for standing with us as we face these challenges together.
