Dear John,

I’m proud to tell you that the U.S. National Human Trafficking Hotline remains open to serve sex and labor trafficking victims and survivors who need help 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It was a big challenge for us to quickly move Trafficking Hotline operations to an exclusively remote environment, but we are continuing to ensure everyone who needs help can access it.

This is our mission, to restore freedom to victims and survivors and to prevent sex and labor trafficking, even in the most dire of circumstances. I could not be more proud of our team and you, our community, for stepping up to respond to the needs of the individuals we serve.

Today is #GivingTuesdayNow, a new global day of giving and unity created as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. This is an opportunity for us to raise $20,000 in much needed funds so that victims of trafficking get help, heal, and start on the path to freedom.

The reality is right now we’re living in a world ripe for human trafficking, abuse, and exploitation. The most vulnerable people – the runaway youth, victims of domestic and sexual violence, and homeless persons – are the hardest hit, with dwindling resources available. Vulnerable people + a thin safety net + people desperate to earn a living all add up to an environment where trafficking and exploitation thrive. In my video, you’ll hear what we’re seeing and hearing on the Trafficking Hotline related to conditions created by the coronavirus.

These are the times when help needs to be just a phone call or text message away, and with your help we can continue ensuring that it is.

Sex and labor trafficking is a multi-billion dollar criminal industry that robs nearly 25 million people of their freedom around the world. With so many businesses temporarily closing down, workers being laid off or furloughed, and basic resources getting harder to acquire, the risks of already vulnerable people being trafficked increase exponentially.

You can be certain the traffickers know this, and we need to act to protect those at risk for trafficking and abuse.

Please make your gift right now on #GivingTuesdayNow and help us end the exploitation of human beings for profit.

However big or small, your gift will make a difference. Thank you for your support.

In solidarity,

Megan Cutter
Acting Director, U.S. National Human Trafficking Hotline

P.S. We’ve set an ambitious goal to raise $20,000 today to fight against the system of human trafficking. Please give generously, if you can, now to help us stand firm against this vicious criminal network.
