We have some great news! Today, President Biden and Vice President Harris announced brand new executive orders that will save countless lives from gun violence.

Many of the actions President Biden released today are based on recommendations GIFFORDS Law Center made to the incoming Biden-Harris administration in 2020, and we’re so glad they understand how crucial these steps are to prevent gun violence. Later today our leader, Gabby Giffords, will join the president at the White House as he announces these lifesaving actions.

These new directives will: 

• Expand background checks
• Establish a task force to investigate emerging technology like 3D-printed guns
• Fund community violence intervention programs 
• Encourage states to implement extreme risk protection orders (also known as “red flag” laws)
• Develop guidance for schools on how to effectively conduct school shooter drills
• Promote the safe storage of guns
• Enhance ATF reporting on ghost guns and gun trafficking
• Improve and expand data collection and reporting on shootings and gunshot injuries

This is a huge step in the fight to save lives, and it’s only possible because of supporters like you. While President Biden has done so much to address gun violence from the executive branch, in order to solve this epidemic once and for all, we still need Congress to pass stronger gun laws and for the courts to uphold them. And that’s what our team is working for day in, day out.
