John -
My name is Sonia, and I am the Head of Campaigning and Organizing at 350.org. Right now I’m at New York Climate Week, one of the biggest climate gatherings of the year attended by world leaders and activists.
Many governments are expected to make important announcements about climate goals and policies this week – including Azerbaijan – the host country for this year's UN climate talks, COP29.
But, what we’ve seen so far from governments doesn’t go far enough.
Before finalizing their announcements, we need to make sure world leaders hear our demands loud and clear. And know we won’t be silent if they don’t meet our expectations for setting ambitious climate targets. John, can you sign our open letter now and demand they commit to ambitious climate goals?
This past summer was the hottest ever recorded in North America and Europe, while East Africa and Latin America faced some of the worst floods in history. With COP29 coming up, national leaders must take strong action to fight the climate crisis. The first step is for them to set bold climate goals this week. From phasing out fossil fuels to providing equitable financial support to vulnerable communities, we need leaders to commit to these demands now.
This Open Letter is signed by several major climate organizations, and will be delivered to every single head of state that is part of the United Nations. But John, we need your signature so we can show the people power behind our demands. Can you sign the open letter now?
Thank you,
Sonia for 350.org
