Speaking at the TTARA and PBPA Inaugural Luncheon

I was in Midland on Wednesday where I delivered the keynote speech at an inaugural luncheon hosted by the Texas Taxpayers and Research Association (TTARA) and the Permian Basin Petroleum Association (PBPA).

The oil and gas industry has been a vital partner in supporting infrastructure needs in the Permian Basin, and last session the Senate passed a bill ensuring long-term support for the electrical transmission infrastructure essential to operations in this region. Investments like this strengthen Texas as a whole.

We also discussed critical topics impacting our state’s economic future and how the Texas Senate is working to maintain Texas' competitive advantage in attracting investment and jobs.

The Biggest Liar in the Texas Media

To borrow a line from Ronald Reagan, “There he goes again…”

It’s time to call out Scott Braddock as the biggest liar in the Texas media. He pushes fake news, claiming a closet full of unnamed sources to create a story out of thin air.

Braddock reports that on Thursday evening, I was “privately reaching out to several Republican House members…” and I “was privately urging them to vote for John Smithee.” That’s a total lie.

As far as Thursday night goes – or any other – I did not ask one single member to vote FOR any one candidate.

My conversations, both private and public, have been focused singularly on encouraging members to stand united to vote AGAINST Dade Phelan.

Scott’s analysis of the caucus is suspect, mostly because it came from him. If he was there, in person, why couldn’t he count the number of people in attendance? If he listened to the meeting, as he said he did, his reporting was lacking in depth or substance – a common characteristic of his day-to-day reporting style.

Maybe it was the smoke from his cigar that clouded his ability to report the facts accurately.

His style of reporting based upon “some people say” and “one unnamed source” is totally unprofessional.

If Scott can produce one single House member who said I told them who to vote for, I will cheerfully contribute $10,000 to Scott’s favorite charity. I assume that’s Alcoholics Anonymous.
