A government consultation on the definition of schools could lead to more settings, including some religious educational institutions, being classed as 'independent schools' and subject to inspection.

A Sikh doctors' group and the Sikh Council have complained after a doctor who refused to shave his beard was moved to a different role because his mask would not fit. In response the national medical director has said "reasonable adjustments should be made by providers in this area".
