Dear Friends,

On Tuesday night, the NCC hosted its 36th annual Liberty Medal ceremony honoring America’s storyteller, Ken Burns, for illuminating the nation’s greatest triumphs and tragedies and inspiring all of us to learn about the principles at the heart of the American idea.

As Ken Burns said during the ceremony, “As a nation, we’ve often forgotten that this history was made by everyone. The stories of those forgotten entirely and those whose stories have been historically ignored or undervalued are critical to our larger American story. You cannot understand the U.S. without understanding us—all of us. The National Constitution Center reminds us daily through exhibitions, education, engagement, and outreach, through the work of scholars and teachers, that our founding documents are not materials to be left in some distant, dusty past, but central to our ongoing story.

I’m sharing a video of the uplifting ceremony, where we celebrated Ken’s work and had a conversation about our nation’s founding ideals as we prepare for America’s 250th anniversary in 2026.

You can watch the full ceremony, find ceremony highlights below or on our YouTube playlist, read a recap on our Constitution Daily blog, or read the transcript.
