Message from the Director
Dear Colleagues,
You may have noticed that the Awards List [ [link removed] ] on OVC’s website has started populating with grantees and some of you may have already received your award packages. We’ve been working diligently on reviewing and preparing award packages and I assure you that the rest are coming ahead of September 30.
One such award is for a new OVC grant program—the FY24 Trauma Recovery Center Demonstration Project [ [link removed] ]—to expand access to trauma recovery centers. These centers play an important role in addressing the needs of underserved victims of violence and I’m excited to announce that the *University of California San Francisco (UCSF)*, with the *National Alliance for Trauma Recovery Centers (NATRC)* and the *Alliance for Safety and Justice (ASJ)*, has been selected! With nearly $5 million in funding, the NATRC will establish trauma recovery centers in communities severely affected by violence and provide technical assistance to support operation of the centers. The *Research Triangle Institute (RTI)* will evaluate the planning and implementation of this pilot program.
NATRC, in partnership with stakeholders, crime survivors, and community members, will conduct a comprehensive landscape analysis to identify communities needing trauma recovery centers and select three to five new TRCs in high-need areas through a competitive process. The UCSF TRC Model, developed in 2001 and implemented in 54 communities across the country, uses a comprehensive, flexible approach that emphasizes assertive community outreach, evidence-based trauma-focused treatment, and clinical case management that coordinates and integrates psychosocial, medical, legal, and other human services.
With this investment, OVC is expanding access for those most impacted by violence. All victims and survivors of violent crime deserve to have a safe place within their community for trauma-informed and culturally relevant healing and support.
Be sure to register for News From OVC [ [link removed] ] to stay up-to-date on all things grants and join me for the October From the Director’s Desk [ [link removed] ] briefing on Thursday, October 10, 2024, for additional award announcements, updates on the Crime Victims Fund, and more!
Sincerely,
Kristina Rose
Director
