Dear John,
This week, Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon have killed at least 620 people—including 50 children—and wounded hundreds more. The strikes came a week after Israel indiscriminately detonated explosives hidden in electronic devices allegedly belonging to members of Hezbollah. Now Israel is preparing for a potential ground invasion of Lebanon, and hundreds of thousands of Lebanese citizens have reportedly fled their homes.
Israel’s actions are the latest in a series of attacks between Israel and Hezbollah that have brought the region close to an all-out war. There is an off-ramp from this conflict. Hezbollah has said it will end all attacks on Israel if Israel agrees to a cease-fire in Gaza. But so far, Israel has refused this step. Instead, it is escalating violence.
Tell Congress: Do everything in your power to peacefully stop the spread of war!
The escalation stems from Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Over the past year, Israeli attacks on Gaza have killed over 41,000 people and displaced 90% of its population. In the West Bank and Jerusalem, the Israeli army and settler violence have killed over 700 Palestinians and displaced thousands.
The United States is further fueling violence in the region. Over the past year, the U.S. has sent Israel more than $20 billion in weapons of war and other military support.
Please send a message to Congress today. Urge representatives to:
- Enforce an arms embargo on Israel.
- Oppose Israeli attacks on Lebanon and the potential for regional war.
- Demand an immediate and permanent cease-fire in Gaza.
Now is the time to take action to avoid further killing and stop the spread of war.
In peace,
