[link removed] [[link removed]] John,
Earlier this month, CREW filed an amicus brief making the case for Judge Aileen Cannon to be removed from the federal classified documents case against Donald Trump.
Her overwhelming appearance of bias in Trump’s favor, her disregard for existing precedent and her inability or unwillingness to avoid delays and move the case forward are more than adequate grounds to reassign the case.
New reporting by ProPublica adds another reason to doubt her judgment:
Judge Aileen Cannon Failed to Disclose a Right-Wing JunketJudge Cannon *repeatedly* violated a rule requiring that federal judges disclose their attendance at private seminars.
She failed to disclose her attendance at a May 2023 banquet funded by a conservative law school where she joined fellow Federalist Society members and more than 30 conservative federal judges.
And back in 2021 and 2022, Cannon took weeklong trips to Sage Lodge in Pray, Montana, for legal colloquiums sponsored by George Mason, which received $30 million in gifts organized by conservative judicial activist and dark money powerbroker Leonard Leo.
John, judges administer the law, and we have a right to expect every judge to comply with the law, especially ethics and disclosure laws. By failing to report her attendance at these events, she neglected to do so.
Judge Cannon was presented with a historic case that will shape whether the most powerful figures in government can be held accountable by the law. The stakes are too high to ignore her concerning conduct. She must be removed from the case.
