Dear Friend,
Ten-year-old Amir * lost one of his legs after being trapped under the rubble from an attack by Israeli forces. His mother and sister were killed in the attack, but he was not aware of that. Every single day at the Rafah Indonesian hospital, he kept screaming, asking for his mother. Those were the only words he spoke.
I recently returned from a 14-month assignment with Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Jerusalem, where I was supporting mental health activities in Gaza and the West Bank. As indiscriminate attacks continue, we are witnessing extreme mental health needs among our patients, including children.
Health care workers in Gaza are faced with the impossible challenge of providing children with support in an environment that continues to cause them trauma and suffering. Sometimes, the only intervention we can provide is just being there, listening to children, validating their feelings, offering a safe space when possible, and finding ways to instill hope.
Our teams are working in some of the most challenging contexts around the world—from flooded communities to cities facing indiscriminate bombings. These crises can feel overwhelming, but we’ve seen first-hand what we accomplish when we act together.
We can’t do this work without you, and I am so grateful for your support, which powers our medical humanitarian aid in Gaza and over 70 countries around the world.
Your gift will make a profound impact—I see it every day. Right now, your support can go three times as far, thanks to a generous match from the PB and K Family Foundation. Hurry, don’t turn away from our patients >>

I have seen the impact we have when we don’t turn away from emergencies like the one happening right now in Gaza. Since October 2023, MSF teams have provided over 10,700 individual mental health consultations, performed over 4,300 surgical operations, and distributed over 600,000 liters of water per day. But our work isn’t done, and we still need your help.
MSF staff at the hospital consulted with me, asking when the right time was to tell Amir his mother had died. When they finally told him, he broke down crying. Our team helped with his recovery, asking him stories about his mother and working through that grief. Over the following days, Amir’s health started to improve. For him, it was better to know than not.
What we are doing in Gaza can feel like just a drop in the ocean. But we can’t stop, and we won’t lose hope. As an emergency medical organization, we know every action matters when responding to people facing catastrophe after catastrophe. This is how your support makes a difference. In the midst of crisis, chaos, and suffering, your generosity enables MSF to save lives.
Thanks to a generous match from the PB and K Family Foundation, all gifts today will be tripled, up to $200,000—but only until midnight tomorrow. Help MSF provide urgently needed medical care in Gaza and beyond with a tripled gift >>
