Dear John,

As a small organization, LDAD well understands the importance of leveraging our voice and participating with other exemplary organizations dedicated to protecting democracy. Below, we ask you to join one such effort and inform you of two others.

The Society for the Rule of Law recently issued a Statement of Principles to Preserve, Protect, and Defend the Constitution, the Rule of Law, and American Democracy. The Statement addresses the importance of defending our legal institutions during this period of unprecedented threats and asks concerned citizens to reaffirm a commitment to America's fundamental principles, including that "no person is above, beneath, or beyond the law."

This Statement of Principles has been formally adopted by the American Bar Association [[link removed]] , and we encourage all of you to add your names in support. The Statement is an important example of the strong message that must be sent to public officials and the media: when it comes to supporting the basic principles and norms of our democratic institutions, our nation is far more united than divided.

LDAD has also recently participated in two other important pro-democracy efforts. We joined a coalition [[link removed]] of five other prominent organizations to urge the Judicial Conference of the United States to conclude its investigation into Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas for his potential violations of the Ethics in Government Act. The origins of this effort date back to April of 2023, when the Campaign Legal Center asked the Judicial Conference to refer Justice Thomas to the Attorney General of the United States for his failure to report significant gifts in his financial disclosure forms. Public trust in the Supreme Court and our commitment to accountability demand that this investigation be concluded and disclosed to the public.

LDAD also joined 74 other organizations in a letter to Congress [[link removed]] , seeking immediate congressional action to overturn the Supreme Court's stunning decision granting sweeping immunity to the President of the United States. The letter critiques the ruling as a significant threat to our democracy, noting that providing presidents with legal immunity for criminal acts is an affront to the principle that no one is above the law.

Thank you for your dedication to maintaining our democracy. Please support our efforts by donating [[link removed]] to LDAD and by sending this email to your networks. As always, please also feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] [[email protected]] if you are interested in volunteering or if you wish to share your ideas.
