Stormwater Advisory Team Representatives Needed

The role of an advisory team is to provide input and feedback on products and guidance related to stormwater best management practices. The time commitment is roughly 1-2 hours per month in meetings (typically virtual) or draft product review. To express interest now, please email the Advisory Team Contact (see below). *Green Infrastructure* – Green Infrastructure refers to practices and infrastructure intended to mimic natural hydrology, typically integrating native vegetation, and used instead of or in combination with gray infrastructure. Some green infrastructure practices include rain gardens, bioswales and filter strips, turf replacement with native plants, green roofs, wetland restorations, and permeable pavement. MPCA is developing a resource containing Green Infrastructure case studies and opportunities, including some designs. Contact Joanne Boettcher ([email protected])

Our most immediate need, we are hoping to get the Green Infrastructure Advisory Team up and running soon, and we have very little outstate representation! To be a good fit for the Green Infrastructure Advisory Team, we’re looking for folks who are interested in getting more green infrastructure on the ground, with or without much experience. We are working to develop materials than can help accelerate Green Infrastructure adoption and would love your perspective on how we can cater our materials to help address barriers or create opportunities. Any number of organizations or individuals would be appropriate including cities, SWCDs, counties, private companies, watershed districts, etc.

*Stormwater Solids and Sediment Management* - Sediment and gross solids that collect in stormwater BMPs must be removed periodically to maintain the intended function of the BMP. Handling and disposing of these solids can be complicated and costly. The MPCA is developing streamlined resources describing testing, reuse, and disposal options for all manner of stormwater solids. Another component of this project is a gap analysis to identify research needs and policy considerations to help move towards more sustainable and affordable stormwater solids management practices. *Treatment Trains* –Treatment trains refer to series of practices or integrated systems that are designed to treat multiple pollutants and/or optimize overall treatment and benefits.
