Dear Jack,

I'm wishing the best for you and your family during this difficult time. Every Monday, I'll be sending you updates on what the COVID-19 situation looks like in Virginia, and the latest news on what we're doing to stop the spread and help those who are impacted by the virus.

Forward Virginia

Governor Northam announced today that he is extending Executive Order 53, which closes nonessential businesses, for an extra week until May 15th. The Governor has based this decision on data, science, and the advice of experts and medical professionals.

The good news -- after May 15th, barring another extension, we expect to begin Phase 1 of the Forward Virginia blueprint for reopening the Commonwealth. This process will ease some restrictions on businesses and faith communities, though we must all continue to social distance, sanitize surfaces frequently, wear face coverings, and not gather socially in groups of 10 or more. Vulnerable populations will still be encouraged to stay home when possible.

You can read more about the guidelines and phases of reopening here.

May Elections

May municipal elections will be held for the town of Haymarket, Round Hill, Purcellville, Hamilton, Lovettsville, and Middleburg on May 19th. The Commonwealth is strongly urging voters to vote absentee. All voters may vote absentee by citing reason 2A, "my disability or illness" on the absentee ballot application. The last day to request a ballot to be mailed to you is Tuesday, May 12th. You can find more information and request your absentee ballot here.
