Tomorrow is #GivingTuesday

Giving is not only about making a donation, its about making a
DIFFERENCE
and together we can!

In the time of COVID-19,
giving is more important than ever!
Immigrant Advocacy

We continue to stand up for the most vulnerable and denouncing hate. Border Angels has been elected to serve on the advisory board of the San Diego Immigrant Rights Consortium (SDIRC), a coalition of over 50 organizations. Border Angels contributed $25,000 to the SDIRC Immigrant Relief Fund to ensure that more immigrant families receive the support they need.

Green Cards for Kids

Dulce Garcia, Executive Director of Border Angels:
"Every child, especially those that have been neglected or abused, deserve the right to guaranteed protection. They deserve to live in a safe environment where they can thrive and follow their dreams.
Border Angels is thankful for the partnership with attorney Fabiola Navarro which has given us the ability to provide these children with the assistance they need. We hope that Green Cards for Kids will help migrant children in Riverside County gain legal protection as well as hope for a better future.”

Shelter Aid

Border Angels will continue to adapt and respond to emergency humanitarian crises the way it has for so many years. Since the beginning of this pandemic, we have made sure that we are taking the correct and responsible measures to provide shelter aid. Our team continues working directly with shelter directors to ensure the needs of our beloved migrant community in Tijuana are being met, and that we are protecting those most vulnerable by not exposing them to COVID-19.

We are working diligently to help our migrant families prepare for the growing Coronavirus pandemic. With the support we provide, our shelter directors are not only buying food, but are stocking up on medicine, nebulizers, cleaning supplies, disinfectants, toilet paper, etc. We also help the shelters pay for rent, and utility bills, in a time where access to water is so important. We have been working closely with organizations like Refugee Health Alliance who have installed water tanks, hand washing water stations, and provide medical care and COVID-19 hotlines to people who otherwise have no access to any of this.

We have also funded an expansion for the shelter Roca de Salvacion, which upon its completion, will not only mean more room for its inhabitants, but an isolation area if any of them were to become infected. This pandemic has drastically affected the way we provide aid in Tijuana, and we cannot thank you enough for your continued support! Although we really miss physically delivering every donation, we have learned that we have to adapt to better serve our community, which will always remain our priority. We thank you for keeping our families and children fed, healthy, and hopeful through your contribution, as well as showing us just how much love and kindness can do in such trying times! We’ll get through this together!

Water Drops

While Water Drops in the time of COVID-19 are different, we have not abandoned the desert. Water Drops are just not the same as they used to be.

Instead of bigger groups twice a month, we are having smaller groups every weekend (until it is safe to have larger groups again). Smaller groups every weekend, in hopes to maximize our efficiency since we have had to reduce about 75% of attendance, and limit these drops to mostly our Water Drop Leadership Team.

With these smaller groups, each member carries more supplies to try to offset as much as possible the smaller group size. Everyone right now is carrying at least double the amount of supplies as normal.

We are also still removing trash from the desert as well, and each person is carrying out more trash than normal.

As the photos show, movement in the desert and mountains is still very active, and we have a responsibility to be out there.

With mobile handwashing stations at our vehicles before and after we return, sanitizing wipes to treat all supplies when they are left, using hand sanitizer as needed and keeping a distance from each other is how we are creating a safe working environment for all.

Thank you so very much to everyone who is still coming out with us. We know everyone wants to come out and join, but right now we are very limited.

Familias Reunidas
Bond Program
Learn about some of our Familias Reunidas bond recipients life stories:

We have been able to post bond for 21 individuals!
YOU made this happen!

Border Angels pledges to end Family Separation one family at a time!

The Otay Mesa Detention Center has seen the most urgent threat in this pandemic as it has over 162 confirmed coronavirus cases, making it the highest in the nation. CoreCivic is the for-profit corporation that runs this detention center, and does not only house folks in crowded spaces making it impossible to social distance, but does not provide masks, soap or antibacterial gel for any of the detainees. This detention center has quickly become a death trap and public health hazard, and we have heard firsthand just how much these folks are fearing for their lives everyday. Now more than ever, it is imperative we get our people out!

100% of your donation will go toward getting someone out of detention and reunited with their families.

An immigration bond is the amount of money set by the Department of Homeland Security or an immigration judge as a condition to release a person from detention for an immigration court hearing at a later date. To set bond, a judge has to determine that the person is not a threat to the public and that they will be appearing at their immigration court hearings. Unfortunately, our immigration system allows for immigration judges to issue bonds in the minimum amount of $1500 and often well over $20,000 in a very inconsistent and arbitrary manner. For our immigrant families, that means that although an immigration judge has determined they qualify for a bond, they are nevertheless locked in detention until their families are able to raise the bond fund. There are highly predatory bond companies that require high initial payments with high interest and require that the person posting bond is a US citizen or legal permanent resident, and therefore, are unavailable to some immigrant families.
