Friend, this is a bit longer than my usual emails, but I had to share the exchange I had at the Roseville farmer’s market a few weeks ago.

As I was talking to voters one Saturday at my campaign’s market stall, a young woman came and started talking to me about abortion. She introduced herself as an OBGYN, and I immediately thanked her for her work — and apologized that it was now considered heroic.
The young OBGYN and I talked extensively about working in women’s reproductive health in our current political climate.
She told me all about how her clinic, and countless others, were overwhelmed with folks seeking abortive care from out of state. She told me stories of patients undergoing mental health struggles as they recovered away from their families. And at the end of the conversation, she thanked me for fighting to expand national reproductive rights and expressed her unwavering support for sending me to Congress.
After she left, another young woman came running up to me, almost immediately.
This woman had never heard of me or my campaign. She had just overheard my conversation with the OBGYN.
She told me that when she was just twelve years old, she was sexually assaulted and needed an abortion. Thankfully, she was able to access the life-saving care she needed — but she recognized that in our current climate, survivors like her weren’t guaranteed that option.
Friend, I know I’m not the hero in this story. That’s the people who put their lives and careers on the line to get women the care they need in their darkest moments. But women across CA-03 like the two I spoke with at the market are putting their trust in me to fight for their rights, freedoms, and futures — and I’m ready to fight like hell to restore Roe and make sure no woman or OBGYN ever has to live in fear over the repercussions over their decisions to act.
My latest ad features a similar story of a supporter named Miranda. And as Kevin Kiley tries to walk back his record on abortion, it’s more important than ever that we share stories like these, and connect them to the very real consequences of Kiley’s dangerous votes. Friend, it shouldn’t take women opening up about the darkest times of their lives for our reproductive rights to be taken seriously. But until we get leaders like Kevin Kiley who will always seek to undermine our autonomy out of office, stories like these are critical to showing America that abortion access is necessary and life-saving healthcare.
