It is almost the end of the month, and that means if you're anything like me, your inbox is filled with requests from political campaigns and organizations asking for donations.
I’d appreciate the chance to explain why a donation to my campaign for U.S. Senate is one of the most strategic contributions you can make today.
Let me start with what you probably already instinctively know: Michigan is going to be a critical state for the 2024 campaign. There is no winning the White House without Michigan. For Democrats, there is no holding the Senate without Michigan.
But you were probably already sold on the importance of Michigan. So, aside from the fact that control of the U.S. Senate is at stake (!), what about my race? Why donate to my campaign?
This is one of the rare open Senate races without an incumbent running. That means we have A LOT of introducing of me to do across the state. A recent poll showed about 50% of the state knows me, across our 11 media markets.
Reaching those folks takes resources, and that's not something I can do without you.
Add the fact that this is going to be one of the most expensive races in the country — not just with candidate spending, but outside spending too.
And I'll close with the news that in all of my elections, I have historically done better than Democrats usually do in the "redder" areas of the state. That means I am finding and pulling voters other races couldn't, and that is good for everyone up and down the ballot on Election Day.
So yes, this race is kind of a unicorn. It's a unique situation where control of the White House and Congress is on the line, most voters don't know the candidates yet, and the Democratic Senate candidate can help the top of the ticket, and not the other way around.
That's why I am asking for your support: Can I count on you to make a contribution to my campaign for U.S. Senate before our September FEC fundraising drive ends? I would not ask if it were not so important.
