Gun violence is the leading cause of death for kids for the third year in a row. John,
These are just some of the back-to-school items featured in a New York Times article about products designed for military protection that are being marketed to parents to protect their kids from school shootings.

Is this really how we’re going to address the number one cause of death for kids, John? Bulletproof back to school products are an insult to the deadly reality that our kids face at school in a country that refuses to take common sense measures to protect them against gun violence.
Our kids don’t need bulletproof backpacks – they need life-saving gun laws. Add your name to our urgent petition to Congress to take action to stop school shootings NOW. >> [[link removed]]
STOP SCHOOL SHOOTINGS [[link removed]]
School shootings have become the norm in the United States. Children – including my own – are part of the Lockdown Generation, the hundreds of thousands of kids who have gone through school learning how to take cover in case of an active shooter while lawmakers offer their empty thoughts and prayers and NRA pocket politicians steamroll common-sense gun violence prevention legislation at every turn.
Earlier this month, two children and two adults were killed when a 14-year-old gunman opened fire at his school. And still, Congress failed to pass common sense legislation that is proven to save lives.
The former leading cause of death for children, car accidents, has diminished because safety measures that have been continuously added for years: Seat belts, air bags, and lane change alerts. So why can’t we do that with guns? It should not be up to our kids to bulletproof their pencil cases and binders to protect themselves in school, they should be safe because our lawmakers have taken action to protect them.
John, will you join me in calling on Congress to act in the interest of our kids and stop school shootings? [[link removed]]
