John,
The U.S. has truly become a factory-farming nation. While politicians and regulators look the other way, these corporate moneymakers are only getting bigger β and their impacts are only getting more catastrophic.
Our newest research reveals how factory farms pockmark our rural communities and litter the environment with tidal waves of unchecked pollution. For the first time, you can see how much factory farms have expanded over the last 20 years.
The U.S. is home to more factory-farmed animals, producing more waste and more pollution than ever before.
The Food & Water Watch research team's new factory farm report includes interactive maps showing where factory farms are concentrated β down to the county level!
The map, based on the latest USDA Census of Agriculture, includes new density rankings that reveal the extreme concentration of factory farms β and their waste β in communities across the country, endangering clean water and public health.
Find out how your state stacks up. You can zoom in and click to view livestock density levels down to the county level.

Food & Water Watch has been working to stop factory farms for years. In 2018, we were the first national organization to call for a ban on factory farms. In 2019, we worked with Senator Cory Bookerβs office to introduce the first federal moratorium and transition away from factory farms: the Farm System Reform Act.
In 2024, weβre doubling down and dedicating more research, ramping up volunteer efforts, and building powerful coalitions working together to ban factory farms.
Thank you for viewing and sharing our new research and for being an essential part of the transformation to a safe and equitable farming future!
Onward together,
Amanda Starbuck
Research Director

P.S. Will you take action today to stop dangerous and polluting factory farm expansion? Tell your members of Congress to support the Farm System Reform Act!
