Dear Friend,
The Black Legislative Leaders
Network is excited to annou
nce our collaboration with the
Virginia General Assembly’s Black Maternal Health Caucus to host an
important event aimed at addressing the maternal health crisis. On
October 17 & 18, 2024, we will convene in Richmond, VA, at the
Virginia State Capitol for the Black Maternal Health
Legislative Summit. This
event is proudly hosted by Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates
Don Scott and Virginia Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise
Lucas.
This Summit will gather state
legislators from 10 southern states, maternal health experts, and
practitioners to discuss and develop a comprehensive
legislative package designed
to improve maternal health outcomes, especially among Black women and
children. Together, we will focus on actionable solutions to address
the maternal health crisis in the South, where Black women are
disproportionately affected by preventable complications during
childbirth.
This one-and-a-half-day summit will
feature in-depth discussions, expert-led panels, and collaborative
strategy sessions. Attendees will leave with a shared plan to
introduce state and regional legislation that addresses key issues,
including access to quality maternal care, equitable health resources,
and vital funding streams.
We invite you to stay connected for
more updates on this pivotal event and our ongoing efforts to ensure
better health outcomes for Black women and children across the
southern United States.
