Dear Neighbor, I hope you are well. I’d like to update you on a few happenings in our community this week. As we continue to recognize Veteran Suicide Prevention Week, our next event is a Witting Tree Dedication. While this is closed to the public, all are welcome to visit the tree following the event at Lower Providence Community Library from Friday, Sept. 27 through Saturday, Oct. 5. If you have the chance, please take a moment to stop by.
As always, I hope you find the information below informative and useful.
| | Veterans Suicide Prevention Week
| | This week, in conjunction with Montgomery County, we are recognizing Veterans Suicide Prevention Week from Sept. 19 through Sept. 26. As of 2021, suicide was the 13th-highest cause of death for Veterans overall, and the second-leading cause for Veterans under 45 years old. Throughout the week, we held events that recognized and spread awareness
around Veteran suicide. After our proclamation, flag raising, and documentary screening, our final event on Thursday is a witting tree dedication for Veterans and EMS workers. While this is closed to the public, all are welcome to visit the tree following the event at Lower Providence Community Library from Friday, Sept. 27 through Saturday, Oct. 5.
| | Witting Tree Event
| | Coming up tomorrow, we are concluding Veterans Suicide Prevention Week with our Witting Tree dedication at Lower Providence Community Library. A Witting Tree acknowledges the veteran death by suicide rate and encourage discussion around suicide prevention. Seventeen dog tags will be placed on the tree to represent the daily number of veterans lost to suicide this year in the United States. This is a closed event for veterans and EMS workers, but the public is welcome to visit the tree following the ceremony from Friday, Sept. 27 through Saturday, Oct. 5.

| | Flag Raising Recap
| | On Monday, we held a flag raising for Veterans Suicide Prevention Week at the Montgomery County Courthouse, honoring the Veterans we have lost to suicide. It is especially important people are aware of Veteran suicide, how to help, and what resources are available. Please check on any Veterans you may know. 988 is the free suicide and crisis lifeline. I’m very grateful for each member of the general assembly and their offices, officials from Montgomery County, and each attendee who made it out today. Your presence was greatly appreciated.
| | The Journey Home Documentary Screening Recap
| | Thank you to everyone who came out to our screening of “The Journey Home” last night at Ursinus College. I’m glad we were able to hold this as a part of Veterans Suicide Prevention Week. We watched the film, which told the story about a group of Veterans, their community, and PTSD, connected with others, and provided valuable information. Veterans help Veterans, and through that they show us how we can make a difference too. Thank you to the filmmakers, Gary Chilutti and Steven Sonntag, Ursinus College for hosting us, and the Veteran Brotherhood for their outreach and presence in the community.
| | Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission Grant
| | | I’m excited to share some more grant news in our community. Through the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission and its Cultural and Historical Support Grants, $21,200 was awarded to National Audubon Society (Audubon Pennsylvania) and $9,400 was awarded to Historic Trappe. The grants support the operations of museums and county historical societies. Congratulations to both the National Audubon Society (Audubon Pennsylvania) and Historic Trappe!
| | | Integrate for Good Ribbon Cutting
| | | On Wednesday I attended Integrate for Good’s ribbon cutting ceremony for their new Community Hub! Having their own space is an immense milestone and will allow them to continue their programs, expand opportunities, and increase participation. Integrate for Good not only strengthens the bond in our community but ensures everyone is included. I'm so glad to have them in our community.
| | Jefferson Fire Company Housing Ceremony
| | In West Norriton on Saturday, my office attended Jefferson Fire Co.’s housing ceremony that welcomed four new units to their company. For over 100 years, Jefferson Fire Co. has been an integral part of the West Norriton community, providing life-saving fire and rescue services at a moment’s notice and engaging with residents. We are grateful for their ability to keep our community safe while confronting dangerous and challenging situations.
| | Community Days
| | Last Saturday my staff made it over to Upper Providence’s Fall Festival. It was a beautiful day and a great turnout. We spoke with neighbors, shared important resources, and enjoyed the food and activities that Upper Providence had to offer.
Listed below are dates for more community days on the horizon. Make sure you stop by our table this Saturday for Trappe’s Community Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Water Works Park. We look forward to seeing you there!
