Exposure to mercury can have serious ramifications for humans because of its toxic effects on the nervous system, kidneys, and immune system.
But that isn’t stopping the Supreme Court from considering blocking an EPA rule that limits mercury pollution from power plants under the Clean Air Act.
Mercury exposure can be extremely harmful and can cause cognitive impairments, motor dysfunction, and developmental issues in children. It can also cause kidney damage, respiratory issues, and increase the risk of hypertension and cardiovascular disease.
But now the Supreme Court is considering potentially allowing power plants to pollute more mercury into our communities. Worse, they’ve added this to their “shadow docket” and could make an emergency decision any day now without full briefing or any oral arguments!
