Press: PIF Blasts Attack on Sanctuary Communities

The Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives forced a Friday vote on legislation that would deny all federal funding to cities and states who have welcomed immigrants–the so-called sanctuary cities. While the bill passed in the House, it is not expected to see the Senate floor this year. PIF issued a statement Thursday, critiquing the proposal as a dangerous political stunt.

Health: Immigrant Mental Health Framework

Our partners at the Center for Law and Social Policy just released a framework identifying progress on immigrant mental health and priorities for future work. To develop the framework, CLASP consulted partners, learned from focus groups in immigrant communities, and sought written feedback from organizations across the country.

Update: Engage with PIF on LinkedIn

We’ve started a PIF coalition LinkedIn account, and following is a great way to stay on top of news, resources, and advocacy opportunities. Following @pifcoalition on Twitter (yeah, we said Twitter) is also a great way to stay in the loop. And following @pifcoalicion on Instagram offers Spanish language content focused on immigrant families. We’re also happy to follow partners’ organizational accounts on either platform – just DM us.

News: Ohio Governor Defends Immigrant Families

Donald Trump’s attack on Haitian immigrants have again shone a national spotlight on his incendiary rhetoric. We applaud the many Ohio-based and national organizations speaking out against Trump’s comments and heartened to read a supportive New York Times commentary by the state’s Republican governor, Mike DeWine.

We are re-sharing a set of sample materials designed to help partners rebut cynical attacks against immigrant families in their communities. These materials reflect a collaboration of our Communications and Community Education working groups. We are grateful to the California Immigrant Policy Center, MomsRising, and the many other partners who contributed to the development of these resources.
