Dear Friend –
Governor Gavin Newsom has only 5 days left to sign SB 1047 into law. But the tech industry is fighting tooth and nail for him to veto this first-of-its-kind AI safety legislation that would require pre-deployment testing on advanced AI models to ensure our safety.
Together, we’ve sent over 600 emails to Governor Newsom’s office. We’ve had over 7,000 people sign our
global petition in support of SB 1047. But only a few dozen people have made calls to Governor Newsom’s office.
Making a quick phone call is one of the best ways to have your voice heard and make a difference. Use our tool to call the governor’s office now. After you connect using our tool on the phone, press 1 and then 6 on the call to speak with a representative of his office. Here’s a script to help you on the call:
Call Script:
“My name is ___ and I'm calling to urge Governor Newsom to sign SB 1047. AI safety is very important to me, and I think we should require the companies building the biggest AI models to test them for safety. AI has tremendous potential for good and for bad, and we can't just trust the tech industry to regulate itself on this issue.
Governor Newsom has led the nation on many other important issues, including climate change, marriage equality, and more. Now we need him to lead on AI safety. Please tell him that we need him to sign SB 1047 into law."
It only takes a few minutes to make a call. You can make a real difference in this final push for the AI safety legislation that won’t let Big Tech companies off the hook.
Thanks for taking action,
