Friend,
We know that the war on drugs is among the most disastrous sets of policies in the United States. The far-reaching impact of COVID-19 has further exposed drug war devastation and magnified the problems that have always been present.
As the COVID-19 crisis continues to exacerbate the harms of the drug war, DPA is launching a new discussion series, beginning this week on Thursday, May 7 at 2pm ET.
Please RVSP here to join us for the first conversation “COVID-19, Drug Policy, and Decarceration: Reflections and Looking Ahead” which will take place over Zoom this Thursday, May 7 from 2pm – 4pm ET.
DPA and other leading justice reform organizations will explore the importance of decarceration in ending the drug war, how decarceration and the decriminalization of drugs support the health and safety of people who use drugs, and how we can sustain progress on these issues during and after this crisis. The inaugural session will also investigate how we can use the current moment to be more transformational with our policy agendas. Register here to join the conversation this Thursday.
And please mark your calendars and stay tuned for details on the rest of the series:
Decarceration: May 7, 2-4pm ET
Reentry: May 20, 2-4pm ET
Treatment: June 11, 2-4pm ET
Health & Harm Reduction: June 25, 2-4pm ET
Informal & Gig Economies: July 9, 2-4pm ET
Safe Supply & Legal Regulation: July 23, 2-4pm ET
Drug War Policing & Surveillance: Aug 6, 2-4pm ET
I hope you will join us for these important discussions. Thank you for everything you do to help us fight for drug policies grounded in science, compassion, health and human rights.
