John -

In a few weeks, climate activists across Latin America are launching a major solar energy campaign to empower remote communities in the Brazilian Amazon to take renewable energy generation into their own hands.

But we're coming up on a major fundraising deadline — September 30 — which will determine whether activists will have the resources they need to make this groundbreaking campaign a massive success.

We cannot afford to miss this moment. The fossil fuel industry is investing heavily in Latin America, and have been trying to expand their dirty fossil fuel projects in the Brazilian Amazon for years.1 So we are racing against the clock to build momentum, gather funds, and kick off the transition to community-owned renewable energy in Latin America before Big Oil creates an overreliance on dirty fuels in the region. That is why we need your support, John.

I put together a quick list that I'm sharing with supporters like you to see what you will help achieve when you make a donation:

Symbol: Communication materials

Communication materials

$35 helps develop a suite of digital and physical communication materials, video trainings, and short films. This is crucial for spreading the word about the campaign and sharing the communities' experiences before and after getting access to renewable energy.

CONTRIBUTE $35

Symbol: Trainings

Trainings

$50 provides trainings for community members, and meeting spaces for these trainings to take place. Some trainings will be technical — on how to build and maintain solar panels. Others will be people-focused — on how to make a strong case for community-owned renewable energy.

CONTRIBUTE $50

Symbol: Refrigerator

Solar refrigerators

$100 powers solar refrigerators for communities so they can refrigerate food such as fish and açaí from the Amazon, as well as vaccines and medicines. This will help communities achieve food and vaccination safety, and boost the local economy.

CONTRIBUTE $100

Symbol: Water pump

Solar water pumps

$150 supports the installation of solar-powered water pumps that can pump water from the river to homes, farmlands, and the community at large. Climate change has made water more scarce, and these pumps will make a massive impact for Amazonian communities.

CONTRIBUTE $150

Symbol: Community

Community energy infrastructure

$350 strengthens the energy infrastructure for communities across the region, and powers all aspects of everyday life: school boats, community gardens, cooperative equipment, health posts, theaters and community centers, just to mention a few.

CONTRIBUTE $350

So if you've been wondering how you can make a real impact for our communities and our climate — this is it.

It just takes one person to make a world of difference. And every donation brings us one step closer to ending the era of fossil fuels and creating a brighter future for all.

Thank you for chipping in what you can today, it means a lot to all of us.

In solidarity,

Luti Guedes
