Right-wing extremist Mike Johnson sparked outrage and concern on Tuesday among lawmakers who are actually committed to maintaining our democracy when he promised that the House will follow standard procedure for certifying the 2024 presidential results — if the election is "free, fair, and safe." Given that Donald Trump is already planning an extensive election-disputing operation, Democrats are rightfully worried that the Republican-controlled House might refuse to certify the election results on January 6, 2025, in an attempt to deny Kamala Harris the presidency should she win in November. New Democrat Coalition Chair Annie Kuster said Johnson is "speaking in code" and "trying to undermine confidence in the election system." It is wildly inappropriate for Johnson to even insinuate that things might not follow protocol, especially since he was central to the MAGA cult leader's efforts to overturn the 2020 election, spearheading an amicus brief at the time that argued for invalidating Joe Biden's victories in four crucial swing states.

ProPublica has discovered that Secretary of State Antony Blinken intentionally misled Congress about Israel's deliberate withholding of humanitarian aid for starving Gazans in flagrant violation of US law. Blinken instead decided to reject the conclusions of the US government’s two foremost authorities on humanitarian assistance, the United States Agency of International Development and the State Department’s refugees bureau. Prior to his report, USAID had sent Blinken a detailed 17-page memo on Israel’s conduct. The memo described instances of Israeli interference with aid efforts, including killing aid workers, razing agricultural structures, bombing ambulances and hospitals, sitting on supply depots, and routinely turning away trucks full of food and medicine. Lifesaving food was stockpiled less than 30 miles across the border in an Israeli port, including enough flour to feed about 1.5 million Palestinians for five months, according to the memo. But in February the Israeli government prohibited the transfer of flour, saying its recipient, the UNRWA, had been accused of having ties with Hamas. Separately, the head of the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration also determined that Israel was blocking humanitarian aid and that the Foreign Assistance Act should be triggered to freeze almost $830 million in taxpayer dollars earmarked for weapons and bombs to Israel. It gives the appearance that a senior member of the Biden administration is enabling, in USAID's assessment, "one of the worst humanitarian catastrophes in the world."

House Speaker Johnson is once again staring down the barrel of another stupid and entirely avoidable government shutdown unless he gets yet another bailout from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and the Democrats, because the GOP is both incapable AND unwilling to do anything resembling governing like adults. This time around, Republican leaders are privately optimistic they can meet the bar of 111 of their 220 members voting to avoid a government shutdown — barely HALF their caucus. Probably best that we replace this bozo with Rep. Jeffries, the guy who's actually been "functionally exercising the kind of leadership it takes to get things through the House," as Democratic Rep. Dan Kildee put it.

Republican Senate candidate and car salesman sleazebag Bernie Moreno proved himself a bozo morono when he told an Ohio town hall that, "Sadly, by the way, there’s a lot of suburban women, a lot of suburban women that are like, 'Listen, abortion is it. If I can’t have an abortion in this country whenever I want, I will vote for anybody else.' OK. It’s a little crazy by the way, but — especially for women that are like past 50 — I’m thinking to myself, I don’t think that’s an issue for you." Bang up job, sir. If there's one thing women famously love, it's rude and dismissive men mansplaining hugely consequential issues they care deeply about. Way to alienate half the electorate, Bernie!

Kamala Harris backs ending filibuster for abortion rights legislation
In an interview with Wisconsin Public Radio, Vice President Harris announced that she would be supportive of a filibuster exception to restore Roe v. Wade, circumventing the 60-vote threshold that Republicans use to ensure that nothing good ever passes out of the downright undemocratic and regressive institution that is the US Senate. Of course, we'd have to hold our Senate majority in order to make that happen, but it's yet more motivation to do everything we can to elect Democrats across the nation so that we CAN get the things we want and set our nation on the road to a brighter future.

Missouri executes Marcellus Williams despite prosecutors and the victim’s family asking that he be spared
55-year-old Marcellus Williams was murdered by lethal injection by the state of Missouri after the radical right-wing ghouls on the Supreme Court refused to stay his execution — a decision split along party lines, we might add. Williams was convicted in 2001 of the 1998 murder of Felicia Gayle, but new testimony and evidence of DNA test contamination led to St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell demanding that Williams' conviction be overturned. The state of Missouri, led by Republican Governor Mike Parson, refused. "Tonight, Missouri will execute an innocent man, and they will do it even though the prosecutor doesn’t want him to be executed, the jurors who sentenced him to death don’t want him executed, and the victims themselves don’t want him to be executed. We have a system that values finality over fairness, and this is the result that we will get from that," said one of Williams' attorneys to CNN. More than 200 people have been wrongfully executed since 1978, and over half of them are Black.

Online culture warrior and for-profit school voucher scam "evangelist" Corey DeAngelis used to spend his days baselessly accusing public schools of indoctrinating children with LGBTQ+ "ideologies." But now he's gone silent on social media after news broke that, as recently as 2014, DeAngelis performed in gay adult films under the pseudonym "Seth Rose," including a scene in which he won a group masturbation contest. DeAngelis is a senior fellow at multiple think tanks, including the Reason Foundation and the Cato Institute, and is the executive director of the Educational Freedom Institute. DeAngelis has regularly appeared on Fox News and other conservative media outlets, where he has railed against public schools for what he claims is an overemphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, including those that support LGBTQ+ students. Every accusation is an admission from these people.

The southeastern United States is under threat once again from a highly destructive, tropical cyclone that computer models predict will make landfall as soon as Thursday as a Category 3 hurricane. The extreme intensification rate is due in large part to record-hot ocean surface temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico along with ocean heat content values that are also in rare territory — indicating the presence of warm water well beneath the Gulf's surface. Wonder if some kind of change in the climate could be responsible for this.

John McEntee, co-founder of conservative dating app The Right Stuff and the colossal prick who famously bragged about giving homeless people fake money in hopes of getting them arrested, sent disturbing messages to multiple young women offering free trips to Los Angeles and making sexual advances, Wired reported. The app’s sole investor is — why not — right-wing billionaire and JD Vance puppeteer Peter Thiel, and it has been criticized for its mostly male user base.
