Joe Kennedy is playing politics with the coronavirus.
Last week, he started going on the attack against Ed -- trying to say that he wasn't supporting Massachusetts communities during this crisis.
This is a baseless negative attack. Ed has been fighting night and day to help the people of Massachusetts and families and workers across the country get the support and relief they need. There is no place for Joe Kennedy's completely inappropriate attacks.

Look, Ed knows now more than ever that our elected officials should be coming together to fight for working people and for our most vulnerable -- not politicizing this crisis. Massachusetts is suffering, and we have the ability to help.
That's exactly what Ed is doing, and his dedication speaks volumes about his leadership. Here's a small sample of what Joe Kennedy seemed to overlook while he was in front of TV cameras calling Ed ineffective:
- Ed partnered with Senator Warren and Representative Pressley to introduce legislation that would require the federal government to release demographic data about COVID-19 testing and treatment. It's clear Black and Brown communities are being disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 due to years of systemic discrimination, and we need to expose and correct this injustice.
- Ed was one of the first to demand Donald Trump use the Defense Production Act to scale up production of PPE and ventilators in mid-March.
- He's been connecting with local leaders nonstop to shine a spotlight on the heroic work of frontline workers and call attention to their needs -- including using our own campaign to raise money for Chelsea where COVID-19 has hit hardest in Massachusetts.
- When Trump threatened Dr. Fauci, Ed was the first to introduce legislation to protect him and other nonpartisan experts.
- Ed and Senator Warren worked together to make sure that relief checks reached the American people quickly. When giant corporations started taking the PPP loans that small businesses need, they acted quickly to try to fix the broken process.
- During the first relief package, Ed and Elizabeth made sure that fishermen in Massachusetts got aid. Then they came again together to shine a spotlight on the crisis happening in assisted-living communities and to demand information on the safety precautions at the Weymouth compressor station site.
- Ed's pushed for contact tracing to help us actually begin containing this virus and demanded that any plans ensure privacy -- especially once it was discovered that Clearview AI was trying to get involved.
We could keep going, but we think the point is clear. Ed Markey has been working day and night for workers, for families, and for small businesses in this crisis.
It's important to call out negative attacks when they come, and we know they won't stop from Joe Kennedy. And it's even more important to remember what we need in a United States Senator right now -- someone who fights for the resources Massachusetts needs, not someone trying to score political points. We need Ed Markey.
