Dear Friend --
We’re excited to share the great news with you that, just moments
ago, Indonesia, Sierra Leone and the Solomon Islands ratified the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear
Weapons (TPNW)!
Their actions come two days after the international community
adopted the Pact for the Future, which included a commitment to
advance the goal of the total elimination of nuclear weapons.

In these times of heightened nuclear risks, principled leadership
for nuclear disarmament – as shown by Indonesia, Sierra Leone and the
Solomon Islands today – is more crucial than ever.
Big thanks to our campaigners in all three countries, who have
worked tirelessly for several years to raise public awareness about
the treaty and bring all relevant stakeholders on board.
With your donation, ICAN can continue supporting the efforts of our
partner organisations around the world to ensure that more countries
join the TPNW in the months and years ahead.
|
This indispensable treaty now has
73 states parties and a further 25 signatories. Indonesia is the
largest state party by population.
While some large countries have
chosen the dangerous path of nuclear armament, Indonesia has instead
embraced disarmament, as it understands that these horrifying weapons
only create enmity, mistrust and insecurity.
Read more about the new
ratifications here.
