Following recent airstrikes and wide-scale bombings by Israeli forces in multiple areas of Lebanon this week, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is rapidly scaling up our response to help civilians caught in the crossfire.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, 558 people have been killed and 1,835 have been injured in these recent strikes. Thousands more have been forced to flee their homes, seeking safety in other parts of the country, often without basic necessities. Lebanon’s health care system was already strained before the current escalation.
For the past nine months, violence between Israeli forces and the militant group Hezbollah has continued to escalate in Lebanon. MSF’s medical teams are caring for patients and delivering essential relief items to the people in Lebanon who have been forced to flee because of violence and conflict:
-
We are distributing mattresses and hygiene kits to shelters across the country.
-
Our mobile medical teams are providing primary health care and mental health care services in shelters to those in need.
-
Our medical teams are also operating mental health helplines, offering psychological support to people who have had to flee and their communities.
