Hi,

Advocacy works. Look at California’s just announced lawsuit against fossil fuel giant ExxonMobil, led by Attorney General Rob Bonta after pressure from committed campaigners. This landmark case targets one of the world’s and history's biggest polluters for perpetuating the myth that plastic recycling can solve the plastic waste crisis.1

For decades, ExxonMobil and the petrochemical industry have lied about recycling.2,3 The majority of plastic ends up in landfills and our oceans, polluting wildlife and people. Microplastics are in our water, our food, and inside our bodies.

Donate today to support our critical work in shining a light on industry deception.

EARTHDAY‍.ORG has been pivotal in amplifying the threats plastics pose to human, animal and planetary health.

  • We researched and released the Babies vs. Plastics report in November 2023, warning the world of the heightened health risks plastics posed to infants.
  • The U.S government listened:  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institute of Health (NIH), United States Geological Survey (USGS), US Department of Interior (USDI), and the US Department of Health & Human Services  (NHHS) –  all mentioned our report and told their staff to read it.The State of Maryland and National Park Service promoted it.
  • Our team was on the ground at the UN Global Plastic Treaty negotiations in Ottawa, making the news by projecting Plastics Are Toxic onto the Supreme Court.

  • We dominated billboards in NYC’s Time Square doing the same.
  • All over Africa, our Plastics Don’t Give a Fork campaign drove the message home.

  • Over 5,000 of you backed our letter writing campaign to Dow Chemical’s CEO, demanding that he stop poisoning the planet.
  • We dominated the press coverage in major news outlets: The Guardian, Bloomberg, Forbes, the BBC and 10,000+ more stories — all driving home the message that plastics are fueling a global human health crisis.
  • Our second report, Pets vs. Plastics, released in July 2024, kicked off a second wave of press and resulted in the organization charged with regulating pet food ingredients for the FDA being "released" from their contract.
  • Our campaign to protect our pets from plastics saw hundreds of heartfelt letters, from all across the US, being sent to the FDA during a public consultation period. demanding change to protect our beloved pets from plastics in their food and toys.
  • Finally In August 2024, the Biden administration announced they were changing their position on plastics and are now backing our calls to cap virgin plastic production.

The fight against plastics is not over, with new evidence-based reports and a range of planned actions to continue. Our struggle against the fossil fuel industry and its harmful plastic production, which threatens our health and the environment, has only just begun.

Donate today to help us continue effective action in the fight for the planet.

Your donations are fueling the fight back with policy efforts, critically important educational materials, and media coverage and outreach, all of which hold corporations such as ExxonMobil and Dow Chemicals accountable. We will continue to demand that governments around the world act to protect us, and not greedy corporations.

Together, we can protect our planet, safeguard our families, and ensure a healthier future for all.

For people power,

Kathleen Rogers
President
