Hispanic Heritage Month

September 15, 2024, marked the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month. This month, we celebrate Hispanic heritage and recognize those who came before us and navigated adversity, broke down barriers, and fought for the rights of our community.

ImageMet with Texas Oncology

Last week, I was glad to meet with leaders from Texas Oncology to discuss critical healthcare issues impacting South Texans. We discussed how together we can work to lower health care and prescription drug prices and ensure middlemen don’t line their pockets at the expense of South Texans and our community pharmacists. From my legislation (H.R. 1613, the Drug Price Transparency in Medicaid Act) to Medicaid expansion and ongoing Medicare drug price negotiations, there is so much we can do to improve the lives of South Texans.

Presented an Award to Los Tigres Del Norte

I had the honor of presenting the 2024 Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Medallion of Excellence Award to Los Tigres del Norte during the 47th annual CHCI Gala. Los Tigres del Norte have made lasting contributions to the arts and our Latino community. Often referred to as "the voice of the people," they have used their music to share the stories of Latino struggles and triumphs over many decades.

It was a privilege to recognize their achievements and celebrate their continued positive impact on our society.

Team Gonzalez was honored to be part of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District’s (PSJA ISD) 17th Annual Countdown to Zero Dropout Recovery Walk. As a high school dropout who returned to school thanks to the support and encouragement of my family, I understand firsthand how crucial these initiatives are for young South Texans.

PSJA Alamo Building Blocks Ribbon Cutting

Team Gonzalez was proud to attend the ribbon cutting of the new PSJA ISD Alamo Building Blocks Academy! This is a major step forward for early childhood education in our community. The new academy will provide our youngest learners with the tools they need to thrive. I have always said that the key to a prosperous South Texas begins with a high-quality education, and I am glad to see PSJA ISD leading the way.

Announced Over $9 Million For Brownsville-South Padre Island International Airport’s Runway Reconstruction

Last week, I announced that the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration awarded the City of Brownsville $9,028,032 as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Airport Improvement Plan (AIP), which I was proud to support in 2021. This funding will ensure the Runway 18/36 meets modern safety standards and can accommodate future growth at the airport, improving both efficiency and safety for passenger and cargo flights.
