Friend,
We're so grateful to have you as a member of a community devoted to seeing all students succeed and go on to become leaders in their communities and our country.
Helping students—and their families—achieve academic and personal success is what UNCF is all about. And our latest report, “Hear Us, Believe Us: Centering African American Parent Voices in K-12 Education,” demonstrates clearly that African American parents like Elaine Wells do not just want a seat at the table; they want a voice and the opportunity to decide what is on the agenda. Their voices matter.
Your voice matters, too. So please, will you take 60 seconds to fill out our Member Priorities Survey and raise your voice on behalf of creating a more just and equitable education landscape for all?

Throughout UNCF’s 80-year existence, we have known that collective voice and action are consequential for enduring change in education. It is what spurred Dr. Frederick D. Patterson and Mary McLeod Bethune to create UNCF to collectively fundraise for HBCUs in 1944, and it is also the impetus for the K-12 advocacy work we have been leading for over a decade.
This work has made a profound impact on Elaine Wells, a parent advocate, and her children:
Before Elaine's sons moved to a new all-boys, Black-led charter school, they had received education in every kind of format there is—and it was a struggle. Their new school, however, led Elaine to the realization that partnering with and supporting their teachers directly impacted the quality of education for her children.
Because of the investment of his Black teacher and his mother’s own voice adding to the conversation about his education, Elaine’s child has now developed a love of history that could last a lifetime.
Parents report better schooling experiences when there are more Black teachers at the school—and now, thanks to the latest findings in our report, we can fight to give more parents like Elaine a seat at the table when it comes to their children's education.
We want to know that you're by our side when it comes to creating a nation where all Americans have equal access to an education that opens opportunities for a truly successful life—ensuring better futures for us all. So please, take our quick survey now and make your voice heard!
