As wave after wave of hotel workers walk out on strike across the U.S, people in some surprising places have understood why workers are taking on the hotel industry.
Understaffing, removing food and drink outlets, ending automatic daily housekeeping. We have all seen how hotels took advantage of the pandemic to cut staffing and guest services that they have not restored. It has made booking a hotel feel like buying a plane ticket, where you pay more and get less.
For hotel workers, the industry’s service cuts hit close to home: lost jobs, lost income, and more painful workloads. They also affect hotel workers’ ability to give the best possible hospitality. We don’t want hotels to become the next airline industry.
