Hunting workshops are designed to help novice or experienced hunters with the essential skills and knowledge needed for an enjoyable and responsible hunting season. Participants will get hands on training and expert advice to develop strategies for a successful hunt. Whether you're looking to sharpen your skills or learn know ones, you won't want to miss these Learn to Hunt workshops across Maine! All materials are provided unless otherwise noted below.

Learn to Hunt: Becoming a Hunter - Damariscotta or Northport, ME

Hunters in a field

Hunting is an excellent way to spend time outdoors in a meaningful and authentic way. If you are new to hunting, or just curious about it, this course is an excellent way to learn more, figure out how to get started or identify your next step in your journey to becoming a hunter. This workshop will discuss laws and regulations, different reasons for hunting, selecting hunting equipment, target species, and how to get started on this rewarding path.

Learn to Hunt: Introduction to Whitetail Deer Hunting - Norway, Damariscotta, or Northport, ME

Whitetail Deer Hunting

Deer hunting is an exciting way to spend time in the woods while matching your skills with one of Maine's most sought-after big game species. Join us to learn how to apply knowledge about deer habitat and behavior to hunting methods and tactics. This workshop will include hands on demonstrations and practice to get you ready for deer season!

Learn to Hunt: Introduction to Muzzleloaders - Wilton, ME

Hunter with Muzzleloader in Tree Stand

If you're interested in hunting during the muzzleloader season but don't yet know how to load and use a muzzleloader, you won't want to miss this introductory workshop. We will discuss safe firearms handling, use and storage, and details about loading and cleaning. Learn about flintlocks, percussion guns and in-lines, and associated equipment that is used to hunt with a muzzleloader.

Learn to Hunt: Rifles for Hunting and Recreation (Ladies Day)

Learning with Rifles on the Range

Rifles can be used to harvest small and big game in Maine. Learning to correctly use a rifle will increase the enjoyment and success of a hunt. In this workshop we will learn to safely handle rifles in all settings including hunting scenarios and cover the various type of rifles, caliber selection, and ammunition types. You will also learn how to sight-in a rifle so that the bullets hit your point of aim with opportunity to use a variety of sighting systems from basic to advanced. This workshop will include hands on practice at the range using .22 rimfire rifles to developing accurate shooting skills. The opportunity to fire big game rifles will be offered. *This workshop is intended for individuals 18 and up.*
