Hi John, I remember when Von Bortz first reached out to me looking for help. It was a snowy winter day in Colorado almost four years ago. “There’s a strong rotten egg smell in my house and around the neighborhood. I get sick, dizzy and nauseous all of the time,” Bortz told me then. Finally, this past July — after Earthworks launched an intensive investigation, made 64 site visits, recorded hours of video of emissions, filed 14 complaints with the state, and helped local folks organize political and policy change — the county and state got the oil and gas operator, Prospect Energy, to shut down for good. This is a big, important win. It’s the kind of work we’re doing all over the country with your help. Read more about Von Bortz’s story in our latest post: How Earthworks Shut Down a Toxic Oil and Gas Company that was Poisoning People in Colorado.
