This year, I took action against a major property management company which was charging “junk fees”–that is, undisclosed and made-up fees like a “moving out fee”–that unknowing tenants pay. And friend, we got tenants their money back.
Now, other landlords are on notice that these fees are illegal – and that I’ll fight to get money back to tenants.
Recently, I filed a lawsuit to stop collusion between landlords who were illegally using a software program provided by Realpage, a company that bragged that their product could help landlords collude rather than compete. You can read about that lawsuit here.
Finally, I filed a brief to make it clear that lying to tenants is illegal, like putting terms into leases that are unenforceable. Landlords are now on notice that such actions and dishonesty to tenants won’t be tolerated.
