The EU should follow Germany’s example

The terrorists had no warning. The German police raided Hezbollah safe houses in Berlin and three other German cities, taking with them boxes of evidence.

In one stroke early Thursday morning [link removed], a move long encouraged by AJC became the new reality in one of the most important countries on the globe. Germany banned all Hezbollah activities on German soil, dealing a severe blow to the antisemitic and anti-Israel terrorist group, a proxy of Iran, in what had previously been a key base of operations on the European continent.

The move came after U.S. and Israeli leaders signaled the importance of the issue, and followed months of AJC public and private advocacy, including a full-page ad in The New York Times [link removed], the release of our report “Setting the Record Straight on Hezbollah,” [link removed] and multiple op-eds in European newspapers [link removed].

What happens next?

Seven years ago, the EU decided to label Hezbollah’s “military wing” a terrorist organization, drawing an imaginary distinction between the group’s terrorist and political factions—a differentiation rejected even by the terrorist group itself.

Now we're calling on the EU to follow the example of the Netherlands, Germany, U.S., U.K., Canada, and others to finish the job and recognize Hezbollah as a terrorist group in its entirety.
