JOHN,
Up until this point, we’ve largely stayed out of Trump’s push to deport 20 million people from the United States.
Not because it isn’t a grave concern, or that we don’t care. But because there are many other organizations better positioned than we are to fight back on that issue.
Up until this point.
Trump’s not put up many specifics on implementation, but he has said that he would mobilize the Military to take part. He has said he’d use mass camps. And yesterday, he said that he would give immigrants targeted for deportation “serial numbers.”
This, after Trump fabricated a wave of attacks at legal immigrants in Ohio.
After he set his rabid base on a blood libel against a group of people that the community itself has defended, as bomb threats and death threats rain down.
After Trump publicly called to root out the “vermin,” lead purges of the government, and push the Military into swearing loyalty to him above all else.
A hell of a lot of Americans died putting a stop to a dictator like this 80 years ago.
Trump is telling us — in his own words — that his administration would follow the same playbook. It would be an insult to the memory of our parents and grandparents if we let him win.
