In 2010, the Supreme Court of the United States delivered a devastating ruling in Citizens United v. FEC. The decision determined that concluded the same rights to free speech afforded to individuals must also be extended to corporations.
Since that ruling, corporations have been permitted spent billions of dollars, unchecked, to influence elections nationwide. For too long, this dark money has manipulated our political system and allowed the uber-rich to get even wealthier.
Congress must act now and pass the Democracy For All Amendment to overturn unrestrained campaign spending and stop dark money from contuinuing to corrupt American democracy.
For nearly 15 years now, pharmaceutical corporations, the fossil fuel industry, insurance companies, and other special interests now wield dangerous amounts of power over American politics — all thanks to this SCOTUS decision. Corporations have been allowed to buy our elections and undermine the voices and votes of everyday people.
This monumental decisions has had far-reaching effects. Americans are losing faith in the value of their vote. We can’t continue to let the ultra-wealthy few drown out the voices of the majority. Congress must act now to reverse the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision and remove dark money from our elections.
