Esther is one of the hundreds of thousands of people fleeing war and violence in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), seeking refuge in a displacement camp in Goma, North Kivu. “This is the third time I’ve had to flee the war,” she told Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) staff.

Now, Esther and other people living in crowded camps are facing a new threat: An outbreak of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) that’s sweeping through DRC at an alarming rate. MSF is rapidly mobilizing to stop this disease and save lives, but we need your help.

Across four provinces in DRC, MSF teams have launched or expanded our response to mpox. We’re supporting health care facilities on the ground to triage, isolate, and treat patients with mpox symptoms. In South Kivu alone, our teams have treated more than 600 patients, over 200 of whom were serious cases.

MSF was able to rapidly scale our response to this emergency in DRC thanks to our independence, which is made possible by our community of donors. But we need your support to continue to scale this work and our responses to other crises worldwide.
