Message from Rep. Tracey Mann. Having Trouble Viewing? Click Here. Fellow Kansan, Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter! I am in Washington, D.C. for a week of votes, meetings with Kansans, and committee work. Follow me on social media to see what is happening in Congress and how I'm fighting to protect our conservative Kansas values. I do not serve in Congress to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America – I serve to fight and work to make it stronger. That's what I am doing while believing our brightest days are yet to come. Yours in service, Click below to follow me on social media. Mann.House.Gov The Week Ahead This week, the U.S. House of Representatives will consider legislation to restore law and order in America, hold the Biden-Harris Administration accountable for their catastrophic Afghanistan withdrawal, and sanction bad actors in Communist China. Under Vice President Harris and President Biden’s leadership, the United States has been weaker on the world stage, and their soft-on-crime policies have caused a surge of violence across the country. I will vote to restore law and order and to strengthen our standing on the world stage. The House will also consider legislation to fund the government. I will always fight to reduce and reprioritize federal spending, secure our southern border, and stop the Biden-Harris Administration’s weaponization of the federal government. I look forward to getting our fiscal house in order and protecting our conservative, Kansas values. Read my Commitment to the Big First here Meetings in the Office Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce Livestock Marketing Association Americans for Prosperity - Kansas Associated General Contractors of Kansas Gold Star Families Institute of Real Estate Management Kansas National Education Association National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association In the Office Fighting to Protect Stepped-Up Basis For the fourth year in a row, the Biden-Harris budget proposal eliminates stepped-up basis, an important estate tool for small business owners and family farms to use when transferring their assets to the next generation. The Biden-Harris farm killer tax on small, family-owned businesses would be devastating for the 98% of American farms and 90% of businesses that are family owned and operated. These men and women are the backbone of America, and Congress must support their efforts to feed, fuel, and clothe the world, not crush them with devastating capital gains taxes. I will always stand with small businesses and family farms. Meetings in the Office National Turkey Federation The Biden-Harris Administration’s Packers & Stockyards rule ignores the unanimous opinion of eight different circuit courts and changes the inherent nature of the P&S from equal opportunity to equal outcomes. There is nothing equal about removing the requirement to prove adversity to competition. I am fighting to support groups like the National Turkey Federation by eliminating this red tape and reining in overreaching regulations. The federal government should support farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers, not hinder them with bureaucracy. We need a Farm Bill to support groups like National Turkey Federation, and I appreciate their role in feeding, fueling, and clothing the world. Kansas Automobile Dealers Association This week, I met with members of Kansas Automobile Dealers Association (KADA). I was proud to support one of KADA’s top priorities on the House Floor Friday by voting to overturn the Biden-Harris Administration’s reckless EPA tailpipe emissions rule. Thank you for meeting with me during your visit. Transportation Intermediaries Association The Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) provides leadership and direction for third-party logistics companies of all sizes. The Big First has more than 83,000 miles of road and more than 4,000 miles of railroad track, which is why groups like TIA are so vital to these companies in Kansas. I am proud to represent them on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in Congress. Kansas Farm Bureau One of my favorite parts of representing the Big First is hosting Kansans when they visit our nation’s capital. I appreciated showing members of Kansas Farm Bureau around the U.S. Capitol Building and am proud to have received the Friend of Farm Bureau award. We must support groups like Kansas Farm Bureau by passing a five-year, fiscally conservative Farm Bill. Thank you for spending time with me last week. Central Christian School Central Christian School is a pillar of the Hutchinson community. It was a pleasure meeting with them during their trip to Washington, D.C. Thank you for discussing the importance of our children's education with me and for using your voice to advocate for our next generation of leaders. Pizza Hut, Kansas Last week, I met with franchisees who operate several Pizza Hut locations in the Big First. During our meeting, we discussed the need to extend the pro-growth tax policies from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that provide much needed relief to businesses. Kansas is the birthplace of Pizza Hut, and I appreciate that what started as a single pizza restaurant in 1958 has become a symbol for pizza across the country. Pizza Hut's story is truly one of the American dream. Kansas Association of Professional Insurance Agents Kansas Association of Professional Insurance Agents represents independent agents throughout Kansas. During their visit to our nation’s capital, we discussed the Main Street Tax Certainty Act that I cosponsor, as well as the need to strengthen federal crop insurance. Consumers and producers alike understand the higher risk, the higher the fall. After facing historic droughts and a worsening farm economy, Congress should do all we can to strengthen the agricultural safety net to give our farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers the certainty they deserve. Rise Against Hunger Kansans have a special relationship with using our agricultural surplus to feed a hungry world. In 1953, a Kansas farmer had the idea to use surplus Kansas grain to help feed the hungry, and from that, Food for Peace was born. A year later, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Kansas’ favorite son, would sign parts of the program into law. Kansans' commitment to addressing global hunger still stands strong today. Last week, Kraft-Heinz and Rise Against Hunger rallied the anti-hunger community for their Packathon event and packed 25,000 meals for the food insecure in other parts of the world. I was honored to join them at this event. As someone who grew up on a family farm in Kansas, I too know full well the responsibility our agricultural community feels to feed the world. U.S. Global Leadership Coalition Last week, I joined U.S. Global Leadership Coalition to celebrate America’s leadership in promoting global food security. Feed the Future is an initiative aimed at accelerating innovative food and agriculture research to break the cycle of food insecurity. Kansas State University has been a valued partner in the Feed the Future Innovation Lab community with more labs than any other state. Kansans have a decades-long commitment to fighting global hunger that still stands strong today, and by investing in research that finds solutions to agriculture’s biggest challenges, we protect U.S. farmers and ranchers from future threats, strengthen our nation’s food supply, and ensure that we remain at the forefront of global agriculture. Kansas National Guard Last week, I received an update from the Kansas National Guard on their service both at home and abroad. We discussed how Congress can best support the readiness of our brave men and women in the Kansas National Guard and the important work they do on the ground. Thank you to our National Guard! CHS CHS is a diversified global agribusiness cooperative owned by farmers and member cooperatives across the U.S. I met with Dave Beckman of CHS last week to discuss the need to pass a five-year, fiscally conservative Farm Bill that provides for farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers. While the current state of agriculture is concerning, the work of CHS and its farmers and member cooperatives make me believe our brightest days are yet to come. Thank you for your important work. Kansas Bankers Association I appreciated speaking with Kansas Bankers Association during their Washington, D.C. fly-in. I answered questions about important financial issues facing our nation and provided an update on critical, must-pass legislation like the Farm Bill. The banking industry is critical to the success of the Kansas economy, and I appreciate Kansas Bankers Association's work in building a robust, resilient, and strong economy. Thank you for speaking with me. Military Academy Nominations Due Friday!
