Dear friend,

I’ve just come back from our protest outside Labour Party conference, where we made sure your calls for debt cancellation couldn’t be ignored.

Cancelling debt could have a huge impact on people’s lives. Recent research showed that five million more children could go to school if debt was slashed across 39 of the countries in crisis. In Kenya, cancelling unjust debt could free up enough cash to keep 168,000 children in school, as well as providing thousands of jobs. Will you share the pictures of our protest and help amplify demands for debt cancellation? It only takes two minutes.

Nine in ten of the debts owed by lower-income countries to banks, oil traders and hedge funds are overseen by UK law. A debt justice law here would make it much easier for countries in debt crisis like Kenya, Ghana and Ethiopia to get debt cancelled.

Our protest stunt today was a reminder to Labour MPs that they need to make good their election manifesto promise to “tackle unsustainable debt” - and we won’t let up until they do.

In solidarity,

Skye, Wiz, Eva and everyone at Debt Justice
