For example, Outright works closely with LGBTIQ activists around the world, and thanks to support from generous donors like you, we have brought hundreds of activists to the UN over the last decade to advocate for change. This month, we will bring eight activists from three continents to the UN’s Summit for the Future and the General Assembly. Years of planning at the UN went into this momentous opportunity to bring together global policymakers dedicated to achieving a future that is better for everybody.
Governments from around the world are expected to sign a Pact for the Future that commits them to work to end wars, protect the Earth’s resources for the future, invest in youth, and harness the digital universe to work for the world and not against it.
As LGBTIQ changemakers, we want the world’s future direction to include key goals that impact our lives: like overturning laws that ban LGBTIQ relationships and identities, ensuring equitable access to housing, employment, health care, and education, protecting our bodily autonomy, and safeguarding our civil rights.
It’s this kind of big-picture visioning and global reach of the UN that influences governments and societies more than many people realize. Outright has been working with LGBTIQ people globally for months in preparation for this moment and sharing their demands with the governments of the world. So, there’s no doubt that our involvement with the Summit for the Future has the potential to ignite positive change for hundreds of millions of LGBTIQ lives in the years and decades to come.
Help make LGBTIQ safety and dignity a pillar of our shared vision for an equitable global future.
