G’day John,
It was a big fortnight in the Senate, from the Royal Commission handing down its final report to finally getting a copy of the Report of the IGADF (the military justice system) Twenty-Year Review.
Here’s a summary of what I did in the Senate for the last fortnight:
- 16 speeches, including on the Royal Commission, the closure of the King Island Dairy, and the Tasmanian Budget to AUKUS.
- 6 motions to force the Government to hand over the IGADF Report.
- 2 amendments to Government legislation.
The Senate passed five pieces of legislation, but unfortunately, the Greens once again blocked the Help to Buy Bill, which would give people struggling with their families in the rental market an opportunity to buy their own home.
With the Greens holding the Government to ransom for pie-in-the-sky asks, the Prime Minister could call an election anytime to pull the Senate into line.
Holding the Government accountable is like running on a hamster wheel. But together, with your help, we get the job done.
I know things are tough, but even a buck, if you can afford it, helps me in the next election.
We win the big fights with the help of all of you.
