Hi Friend,
Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday Now—a global day of giving organized in response to the unprecedented need caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We truly appreciate your ongoing support of Population Connection’s work. Today, I’d like to ask you to consider supporting two of our partner organizations working on the frontlines of health care during this critical time.
WINGS Guatemala provides reproductive health care services and education, especially to underserved rural and indigenous Guatemalans. Their care model is patient-centered, and their work is deeply impactful. In 2019 alone, they were able to prevent 21,069 unintended pregnancies, 104 child deaths, and six maternal deaths throughout Guatemala.
We collaborate with WINGS because their rights-centered approach to fulfilling unmet need for family planning aligns with Population Connection’s mission. Their work is a natural extension of our education and advocacy efforts. The coronavirus pandemic has forced WINGS to shutter its mobile and stationary clinics temporarily, but WINGS staff is still providing short-acting and emergency contraceptive methods, virtual youth leader trainings, and phone outreach as part of a national program to respond to the needs of Guatemalans during the pandemic.
You can designate a gift towards WINGS’ vital education and health care services here.
Conservation Through Public Health (CTPH), based in Uganda, is dedicated to protecting East Africa’s endangered mountain gorillas by improving the health and livelihoods of the people living in and around protected gorilla habitats. Founded by wildlife veterinarian Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka, the core of CTPH’s work is promoting human health in isolated, impoverished communities. Village Health Teams, frequently led by local women, facilitate programs to encourage smaller families, better hygiene, and more sustainable farming.
Before CTPH introduced Village Health Teams, modern contraceptive use in focus communities was just 22 percent. Ten years later, it had risen to 67 percent—far higher than Uganda’s national average of 45 percent. Expanding voluntary access to family planning in order to promote a sustainable balance between humans and gorillas is essential to CTPH’s work. We are proud to partner with CTPH in this endeavor.
The coronavirus pandemic has created a public health emergency for CTPH, as it works to help communities slow the spread of COVID-19 amongst humans and to prevent humans from passing it on to gorillas.
Designate a gift towards CTPH’s groundbreaking and timely work here.
You may also choose to donate to both organizations! Any contribution you make to this appeal will go directly to fund their work.
Thank you for all that you do for people and our planet. I hope you’ll consider giving to one or both of these incredible organizations this Giving Tuesday Now to help sustain their work during this challenging time.
Warm regards,
John Seager
