There is one more week of [National Suicide Prevention Month]([link removed]), and still so much you can do to help raise our culture's understanding of suicide. In recognition of this important month, we're asking you to Walk With Us in the fight to stop suicide by finding an [Out of the Darkness Community Walk]([link removed]) in your area, or by [donating directly]([link removed]) to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to help us continue our mission.

Our Community Walks shed light on mental health and bring hope to those affected by suicide. They also raise necessary funds that go directly toward AFSP's scientific research, suicide prevention education programs, and support for survivors of suicide loss. These funds also allow for our continued public policy and advocacy efforts, which are helping to pass much-needed suicide prevention legislation and life-saving policies.

Become a Volunteer Advocate
for Suicide Prevention

Led by AFSP’s Public Policy Team in Washington, D.C., our nationwide, grassroots network of Volunteer Advocates works tirelessly to champion federal, state, and local policies that support mental health and save lives. The following resources can help you learn more about AFSP's public policy efforts and how to get involved:

- [Sign up to become a Volunteer Advocate]([link removed]) for suicide prevention, and join a vital network of grassroots advocacy that gives you the resources and tools to speak out for suicide prevention and mental health at all levels of government
- Learn about our [2023-2024 public policy priorities]([link removed]), which follow four overarching pillars in order to target upstream prevention, early intervention, treatment, and recovery policies –– from state infrastructure and federal funding, to health care accessibility and mental health parity
- Visit our [Action Center]([link removed]), where you can stay up to date on bills that need support, like the Local 988 Response Act, which will connect people contacting the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline as quickly and safely as possible to a contact center near their physical location, while also protecting privacy (a process known as georouting)
- Participate in one of our [public policy events]([link removed]), like State Capitol Days and the Annual Advocacy Forum, which bring together suicide prevention advocates from every state in order to urge public officials to prioritize suicide prevention and mental health
